Francesca Woodman
Francesca Woodman (April 3, 1958 – January 19, 1981) was an American photographer and was best known for the black and white pictures she took of herself and others with slow shutter speeds. She committed suicide at the age of 22. Most of Woodman's prints are 8 by 10 inches or smaller.
Keywords: surreal, blurred, black and white, broken
Mise en Scene: The picture is black and white. The room is still and in focus but the figure is blurred and difficult to make out. Process / Technique: She would have set the camera up on a tripod and used a slow shutter speed to create this effect whilst she was moving. Content: This photograph explores contrasting surfaces and patterns, making it one of the more abstract pieces in her 'ARTIST ROOMS' collection. It suggests an influence of Surrealism. Her pictures explore issues of gender and self, looking at representations of the body in relation to its surroundings. She usually puts herself in the frame, although these are not just self-portraits, because she is always partially hidden or concealed by the slow exposures she uses that blur her moving figure into a ghostly presence |
This picture forms part of a series called ‘Space2’, made while she was studying at the Rhode Island School of Design between 1975 and 1978. The series explores various ways of concealing herself, reminding viewers that photographs can be distortions of reality. The photograph explores many possibilities of representation instead of simply revealing her identity.

Dominic Harris
Process: This effect is created by setting your camera to a slow shutter speed and twisting the lens (increasing or decreasing the zoom) whilst the shutter is still open. The picture turns out with one focal point and the rest is blurred and distorted.
Dominic Harris' zoom blur pictures consist of brightly coloured images. He uses the distortion of zoom blur to create unordinary pictures.

Michael Bosanko
Michael Bosanko's Light painting started in summer 2004 in Greece after he took a picture and realised that by putting the camera into a long exposure he could move the camera and use the moon to write out words. He then discovered the use of torchlight to ‘draw’. He aims to turn the ordinary into the extra-ordinary.
His inspiration comes from expected and unexpected avenues. The environment plays a big part in Bosankos work. He also draws some inspiration from cinema and TV culture. He's inspired by people such as Michael Kenna and Banksy.
In his personal Light Graffiti portfolio not one piece has reached photo editing stage. There is no layering or overlapping of any kind. He has decided to keep his light graffiti pure and un-edited. He predominantly uses Digital Canon cameras, and sometimes film. The majority of his tools are simple household torches, used or fashioned in various ways, along with standard bulbs, LEDs or fire ect.
